Grey Matter is a collection of tools that connect people through music and build enduring value for those who make it.
We're a team of musicians, DJs, writers, curators, and independent music advocates. We’re building Grey Matter with and for the people that create the most value in the music industry: artists and the humans that support, amplify, and gather around their music.
Grey Matter operates as two complementary entities:

In the US, the Grey Matter app exists as a public benefit company, owned and operated by artists and their communities. Our mandate is to transform moments of human-based music discovery into building blocks for community and meaningful artist support.

In the UK, we're developing a cooperative to house Grey Matter's suite of creator tools, owned and governed by artists and their communities.
EMANCIPATION IMPACT NETWORK

We’re a group of activists, artists, and community leaders that are forming the Emancipation Impact Network.
Our mission is to re-enfranchise people who are intimately affected by incarceration, educate those who aren’t, and collectively work toward the abolishment of the prison-industrial complex.
We use technology to amplify our work and bring people together around these common goals.

Copyright may do a good job at protecting individuals' creative contributions, but it does little to represent our reality as interdependent, interwoven communities – especially our digital reality, which is inherently abundant and memetic. Just in writing our manifesto, we read and referenced about a dozen articles, which are themselves compilations of ideas from dozens of other people.
FOLK is an embrace of that connectedness. We are a collective focused on tracing ancient folk relationships and methodologies in order to embed them into a new commons infrastructure and cultural flow.
